About The Royal Canadian Geographical Society

For 85 years, The Royal Canadian Geographical Society has worked to make Canada better known to Canadians and the world.

As publishers of Canadian Geographic magazine, it has been our privilege to connect readers with Canada’s incredible geographical heritage, and we continue to explore this with each new publication. Now, as we draw near to Canada's sesquicentennial celebrations in 2017, we believe it's time for this heritage to include an official national bird.

The National Bird Project, however, is just one of many programs managed by the RCGS and Canadian Geographic that help build an important appreciation, awareness and understanding of Canadian geography. These programs, such as Canadian Geographic Education, our Research Grant and Scholarships Program and our Expeditions Program, are all essential in helping to make this happen, and we are turning to you to help us make this vision of nationwide geographic literacy a reality. As a non-profit charitable organization, the RCGS depends on the generosity of supporters like you to sustain and grow them.

As someone who believes in the importance of programs such as The National Bird Project, please consider making a gift to The Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Together, we can ensure that the next generation of geography enthusiasts have the tools they need to explore and discover Canada themselves.
